# WeSpeakSports

> WeSpeakSports is a live audio commentary platform for sport. Any fan can call a real
> match live from a phone in their own language, listeners tune in alongside the pictures
> they already have, and commentators are paid on a CPM against their audience. The site
> also carries a directory of clubs and of altcasters, and a blog about fan commentary
> and club-owned media. Tagline: every fan deserves a mic.

## What altcast means

An altcast is an alternative commentary track for a live event: a fan, a former player or
a local journalist commentating a match that somebody else holds the picture rights to.
The listener runs the official video and the altcast audio together. No broadcast rights
are needed for the commentary itself, because the commentary is a new work.

## What a watchalong is

A watchalong is the streaming-culture name for the same idea: a live stream on Twitch or
YouTube in which a fan commentator watches a match and talks their audience through it,
while viewers follow the game on their own TV or streaming service. WeSpeakSports tracks
watchalongs of real fixtures and records who streamed which match, in which language.
